Triathlon - Individual and Teams

The Race

The Triathlon involves a swim, bike and run which varies in distances for each age group.  Athletes can race as an individual or as a 3 person team.

Teams will consist of 3 people, each person completes 1 leg of the race before tagging the next person in a dedicated tag area beside transition.

 All events are National Championship events.

The Location

The race will start on Ngamotu Beach, off Ocean View Parade in New Plymouth.  The cycle and run will take place on the roads and pathways surrounding Ngamotu Beach. 

Entries

All abilities are encouraged to enter the event.  $50 for individuals and $70 for a 3 person team

Equipment Checks

It is your responsibility to ensure that all bikes are roadworthy and equipment meets the Tri NZ rules.  We recommend that you take your bike to your local bike shop before coming to the event.  If you require any assistance when you arrive in New Plymouth please visit Mitchell Cycles who will be able to help you with any repairs.

Tri NZ Technical Officials will check your bike complies with the Tri NZ rules on entry into transition, but this will not constitute as a safety check.

The Course

The swim will consist of a beach start and a rectangle course swum in an anti-clockwise direction. 

  • 200m - 1 lap (U12/13)
  • 300m - 1 lap (U14/U16)
  • 600m - 2 laps  (U19)

The bike course is multiple laps of an out and back circuit of 2.5km per lap (plus entry/exit to mount/dismount line).  Road bikes or Mountain bikes will be allowed.  Drafting will be permitted for U16 and U19 races only.

  • 5km - 2 laps (U12/U13)
  • 9.8km - 4 laps (U14/U16)
  • 14.7km - 6 laps (U19)

The run course is multiple laps of a 1km course with a mixture of footpath, grass and road.

  • 2km - 2 laps (U12/U13)
  • 3km - 3 laps (U14/U16)
  • 4km - 4 laps (U19)

The finish will be under the World Cup Gantry in front of your fans in the grandstands!
